Midterm sweep sparks broad rotation rally

The Dow had its best day of the year as money rotated out of chips and energy into economy-linked names, but the swing structure is not yet repaired.

The Signal

Democrats took both chambers and stocks reversed an early dip into a broad rally, with about three in four names up and the Dow leading. Consumer discretionary, health care, staples, real estate and financials led. Microsoft, Amazon and Apple carried the index, with Apple at a record and at the top of its long-run band. Chips and Tesla lagged, and energy fell across the board as crude dropped more than 8%.

The Noise

The headline says risk-on, but this was a rotation, not a tech-led melt-up. Cash is flowing into far more stocks than out, yet lower highs still outnumber higher highs, so one session has not repaired the past few weeks. Both top-tier setups today were dips caught on the wrong side of the day.

Multi-Signal Confluence

CVS Health: announced a plan to split into a health care company (Aetna, Caremark, specialty, clinics) and CVS Pharmacy, alongside a Q3 beat and raised outlook. Shares fell about 12% toward a six-month low. Heavy selling and lower lows; about 21x earnings with strong free cash flow. Let the price settle first.

Baker Hughes: closed the $1.45B Waygate sale to Hexagon, but crude's plunge pulled every energy name down. The dip is about oil, not the company. About 17x earnings, flat earnings growth, heavy selling, target a few percent lower. Watch whether oil stabilizes.

Nvidia: the clearest loser of the rotation, about 14% below its high. Cash leaving and a reversal pattern armed but not confirmed, same as the Nasdaq-100 fund. Earnings November 17.
