Narrow Tech Bounce, No Top Names

Tech bounced after the worst week since June, but the rise was narrow and no name reached the top tier; the sharpest read is a bearish one on Thermo Fisher two sessions before its report.

The Signal

Technology rebounded, the Nasdaq gained more than one percent, the broad market rose modestly and blue chips were flat. Buying edges out selling, but price structure still leans negative. Early bullish turns sit in financials and industrials, early bearish turns in health care, technology and energy.

The Noise

Chipmakers led a bounce in last week's AI losers, yet roughly seventy percent of the broad index was lower at one point, so a few large names carried the headline. That looks like bargain hunting, not a change of mind.

Multi-Signal Confluence

Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO): price pushed to a higher high while the money behind it faded. It reports before the open on October 21, so wait for the print.

Northern Trust (NTRS): higher lows while deeply oversold, sitting at its long-term average. A setup, not a signal, and the report date is unconfirmed.

Lam Research (LRCX): higher lows just under its long-term average, expected to report October 21 after the close.

Week Ahead

Housing starts and permits on Tuesday, earnings from Thermo Fisher and Lam Research on Wednesday, the Fed decision on October 28, then growth, spending and inflation data on October 29. Hot numbers raise the odds of a rate increase.

Data as of the 2026-10-19 close. Educational research only, not investment advice. Stay sharp.
